Young Leaders Advisory Board

In early 2019, the ARA announced the call for Expressions of Interest to form the inaugural Young Leaders Advisory Board (Y-LAB).

Y-LAB will harness the ideas of young talent in the rail industry and consider issues, projects and priorities on the ARA Board agenda, reporting into the ARA Board to provide its position, proposals and/or advice. Y-LAB will be supported by a Y-LAB Advisory Group, comprised of ARA Board members; Anna Squire, Julian Sharp, and Rene Lalande.

Y-LAB will include eight young leaders from ARA member companies across all sectors of the rail industry. There will be equal gender balance. To be eligible, individuals must be under 35 years of age at 31 December 2019, employed by an ARA member company and must commit to a term of either one or two years. The one and two year terms will allow for continuity and transition of membership. Y-LAB will meet four times annually, a week or two prior to ARA Board Meetings. As a result, Y-LAB members will need the support of their employer and agreement that their employer will meet participation costs such as travel and accommodation.

The ARA will provide resource support including assistance preparing and distributing meeting agendas and minutes. Y-LAB members, with assistance from the ARA where appropriate, will be responsible for the preparation of papers and/or proposals for consideration at Y-LAB meetings. As a guide to the incoming Y-LAB, the issues of branding, skills and training needs, and attracting career aspirants to the rail industry will be considered as priorities.

The first meeting of Y-LAB is scheduled for Tuesday 12 March 2019 in Melbourne. Subsequent meetings will be scheduled in June, September and November 2019.

Applications to Y-LAB are through a formal Expression of Interest process which will be considered by the Y-LAB Advisory Group. Expressions of Interest are due no later than close of business Thursday 31 January 2019.
