Fast tracking rail innovation

Supporting greater innovation and technology adoption to drive efficiency, safety and productivity.

A national priority

Rail innovation must be a national priority if we are to realise the efficiency and safety benefits that greater use of technology can deliver. Action is needed to ensure Australia does not continue to fall further behind its international counterparts when it comes to rail innovation investment.

A single rail market

A single rail market that replaces our state-based system would give suppliers the scale, project pipeline and certainty they need to invest and grow. Local content policies that are nationally focused would boost productivity and opportunity for the rail industry, and make it easier to compete internationally.

An innovation culture

A strong innovation culture challenges traditional ways of working and encourages the development of new solutions. The ARA supports new procurement and policy settings that fosters a stronger focus on innovation to deliver productivity and safety outcomes that benefit both the public and private sectors.
