ARA to Establish Young Leaders Advisory Board (Y-LAB)

2019 January 10 | 01:00pm

ARA is calling for expressions of interest from young leaders throughout Australasia’s rail industry to join the inaugural ARA Young Leaders Advisory Board (Y-LAB) to help shape industry’s future directions.

The eight person Y-LAB will provide advice and proposals to the ARA Board to better harness the ideas of young talent, provide a voice for and champion the industry’s younger demographic, and consider youth focussed issues, projects and priorities.

“This is an exciting opportunity for the ARA and industry young leaders alike. The AusRail 2018 Conference and Exhibition showcased some of the tremendous next generation talent we have in our rail sector,” said ARA CEO Danny Broad.

“Additional engagement of younger generations through Y-LAB will strengthen ARA’s focus on industry growth and attractiveness as a career option,” he said.

The gender-balanced Y-LAB of rail industry employees in ARA member companies under the age of 35 will be chosen through expressions of interest which close on 31 January 2019.

Y-LAB will meet four times annually, prior to ARA Board Meetings focussing on specific issues for significant engagement with the ARA Board.

An advisory group made up of ARA Board members Anna Squires, Rene Lalande and Julian Sharp will review the expressions of interest to select the Y-LAB members, mentor and engage with Y-LAB.

Initial priorities will include the issues of branding, skills and training needs, and attracting career aspirants to the industry.

“I encourage industry colleagues to share this opportunity with your future leaders and similarly encourage those who meet the Y-LAB criteria to submit an application,” concluded Broad.
